Salary Information

Salary levels for Postdoctoral Scholars vary among programs. However, the stipend is expected to be commensurate with funding ranges specified by the federal and state granting agencies. When information is unavailable about peer compensation levels, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs recommends setting the salary rate at the level set for NIH/NSRA Fellows with no prior postdoctoral experience.

Postdoc Classifications

Postdoctoral Research Associates are employees of the University: they receive a salary and all employee benefits for which they are eligible. Individuals are appointed on an annual basis, for a maximum term of five years. (Job Code 1339)

Visiting Scholars are in residence to conduct research supported by fellowships, training grants, or other outside funding sources. Visiting Scholars are not university employees. Appointments are variable, ranging from one month to a year. Individuals may renew their appointment on an annual basis for a maximum of five years.

Research Scientists are non-faculty researchers. Once a postdoctoral scholar has reached the five year limit, they may transition to this employee position. (Job Code 1311-1314)
